WHAT TO EXPECT : PRIMARY SCHOOL ORIENTATION

So we have been successful in securing a place for Primary One. And what's next?

For us as a first time parents who living abroad, we totally have no idea on how is the education system in Singapore.

But the journey will still go on, and we blessed that all the information are available and easy to find. We are really respect on how thoughtful is the process that they have made easy for the resident to register into the local government school.

While most of the countries still depending on the privately funded school, but here they have successfully made the local government school as a first options for all the young learner.

So we have been invited to attend the school orientation at the school premises.

What to expect on that day?

We supposed to bring the child to have a look at the school premises. There will be a lot of older student and also teacher who assigned to send the child to the classroom.

Parents will attend the briefing to prepare the kids on the first day of the school.

Parents are expected to fill up the necessary forms, such as: the student and parents details form, GIRO form (school payment), dismissal form to declare who will be fetching the child, as well as health declaration form and consent (there will be regular health screening as well as dental check up).

Buying the uniforms, we must bring the child here to have the exact measurement done by the seller. Bought only 5 sets of the uniforms. If it's necessary to purchase more, you may contact the General Office. All the payment are made by Cash. Expected total cost of the uniform is roughly around $90. You may also purchase it in another time if you have short of time on the day of the primary school orientation.

Buying the books, so it depending on your child mother tongue assigned. They have already prepacked the books into each Mother tongue. Expected total cost is around $150 and payment mode only in Cash. The same booth also selling those stationary, bags, shoes for the primary school. The books is kinda bulky, make sure you have extra hand to help or you may bring your own trolley / transportation.

Buying the name tags.

So For Primary, they have been adjusting the new recess and dismissal time. There will be 2 different timing for recess, on morning break and lunch time. Because of this two break, they will have later dismissal time. (but this will depending on the school regulation)
