Day 4 we spent to go to Nami island. Because the previous day we were exhausted from playing all day at Lotte's World Adventure theme park, we decided to leave not too early in the morning.
Actually there are 2 alternative transportation to go to Nami island.
1. Bus
If you want to board a bus, you have to go through Gangbyeon station and go to Dong Seoul Bus Terminal. The first bus will depart at 06.15 and last at 22.00.
2. Fast Trains (Korail)
Another alternative is to take a fast train through Yongsan or Cheongnyangni station to Gapyeong station. We ourselves decided to board the train. The journey will take approximately 55 minutes. We board the ITX-Cheongchun train from Yongsan to Gapyeong. The train is Korail. And this train has a departure schedule every 30 minutes.
You can buy tickets for those of you who want to get a comfortable seat. If it is not possible you can buy tickets without seats, and can sit in a small folding chair that is beside a particular train carriage (may use your t-money card to board this train).
From Yongsan station, we buy train tickets with automatic machines. Machine can use English. Or if you want to buy tickets early, you can buy them online on Korail here
Ticket price 5200 for adults and 2600 KRW for small children. And you will get a seat number that is automatically allocated or you can also choose your own seat.
The one thing we are puzzled about is that no one on the train side helps us find the car or seat we are going to sit on. So we must try to find our own. In the train there is no officer who will check our tickets. During the trip away and back, nobody checked our tickets.
Arriving at Gapyeong, we can ride either these 2 transportation:
1. Taxi
Actually the distance between the train station to the Nami Island entrance is not too far away. If you miss the bus, you should take a taxi to catch the time.
2. Bus
The bus is a special bus that surrounds the tourist area. In addition to Nami, the bus will pass through Jara Island, Petit France, Chungpyeong terminals / stations and The Garden of Morning Calm.
From Gapyeong the bus is located in front of the station near the tourist information center. You can ask the bus driver for information. They provide flyers in front of the bus. The bus itself is charged for a day of touring. So after paying you can freely board the bus without being charged again for a full day.
Arriving on the border to the nami island there is a large gate that reads immigration. You just need to buy a ticket to get there, without having to show them your passport. Tickets purchased are ferry tickets for 2 way trips. And the ferry time interval departure only about 20 minutes. So quite a lot of ferries are coming and going.
Finally we reached at Nami islands.
Inside there are several snack / restaurant shops. Some activities such as cycling, segway, and so forth are also here, because the islands are rather wide, so we rent bikes and segways to get around. The rent is only about half an hour per rental. When we get there there is not too much snow. There's a mound of snow, and there's also a little ice slides.
